Info For Pre-Podiatry Students

Below is a collection of resources for the Pre-Podiatry and Podiatry student. For those students who are at the latter half of their career, specifically the last 4-6 months after boards and interviews, check out the section on "PODIATRY STUDENTS" and "TRANSITION: STUDENT TO RESIDENT" for more advice and things to work on in preparation for residency.

The APMA also provides information for prospective podiatry students (and more) here.

Pre-Podiatry Student

Below are a list of helpful websites and blogs created by those with a similar interest in trying to define and explain the path into podiatry as well as  podiatric student life. They offer information, advice, and welcome any questions directly through their services.

Pre-Podiatry Life:
  • A great website to explore is PrePodiatryLife.com, giving an introduction to podiatry and the process for students interested in podiatry. Information on the site includes:
    • Explanation of podiatry.
    • Links to all of the US podiatry schools.
    • Explanation of the application process.
    • MISC information.

The DPM Journey:
  • A channel on youtube, The DPM Journey is dedicated to educating individuals about the field and also provides advice to undergrads/current medical students, managed by CSPM students Diksha Mohapatra and Yona.
  • Page mission states - "Hello, everyone! The field of podiatry sometimes elicits confusion and misconception in individuals who are unfamiliar with this health profession. We sometimes find ourselves explaining what this field entails, and by doing so, were motivated to elaborate on what the podiatric field is about in a video. We hope this video inspires those who are considering going into the health field, especially those who are passionate and determined to work on the lower extremities. In addition, we hope to help educate the general public about whom to seek when encountering lower extremity concerns."

PodiatryForums.com:
  • Podiatry Forums - "page mission states "Well… This page is ran entirely by a podiatry student. It was originally a “forum” based website, and then got converted into a blogging website to document podiatry-related stuff. It initially started as a project, and is still a work in progress."

Student Doctor Network:
Another great website that can be used through the entire process from pre-podiatry, to podiatry student, to residency (and beyond) is Student Doctor Network. Understand the information on the website is presented in blog fashion and much of it is the opinion of the writer/responder, but it is a good resource to find answers to questions you may have (much is answered here), meet other people in your situation, find out about schools and residencies, meet future classmates, and discuss topics related to the field. Moderators monitor the forums, and are also great resources due to their experience in the field. The site includes:
  • Pre-Podiatry Student forum
    • "One-Stop Shop for Podiatry Information" (thread) - discusses application process, schools, and general podiatry information.
  • Podiatry Students forum
  • Podiatric Residents & Physicians forum

General Blog Websites from DPMs, Medical Student/Resident, etc:
  • Jannani's Blog - blog by Jannani Krishnan (DPM student) sharing application tips, general advice and my journey to where I am today. The site will be expanded and track my journey in medicine in the coming years.
  • Life Of A Med Student - quoted as "a voice in social media for all those in medical training" with posts on pre-med, med student, resident, financial, and humor.
  • Merck Manuals Student Stories - various blogs in med school advice, experience, trending topics, etc.
